Producer Workshop – Unconventional Succession Planning
July 10, 2025 1:00 pm
The Watson Art Centre - Dauphin
Conversations involving farm transition can be hard and the reality is that many families don’t have any kind of plan beyond ‘I’m not ready to talk about it’ or ‘leave it to the kids to sort it out.’
The workshop featured Duane Thompson, along with his brother Chris, as they discussed their personal experience and family dynamic within their own farm amalgamation and generational transfer. This wasn’t an accountant-driven, tax-implications sales pitch. It was a crucial conversation about creative options for navigating tough situations involving farm transition planning.
The August edition of Cattle Country has a recap of the workshop.
About Duane Thompson, Tee Two Land & Cattle
Duane & Paula Thompson along with two of their adult children own and operate Tee Two Land & Cattle in the Parkland Region near Kelliher, SK. Their family has been in the area for 125 years and always had a mixture of cattle and grain. They focus on the people and the land and everything else falls in line after that. Soil health and regenerative agriculture are the focus, and they believe that managing the multi enterprise business holistically will enable them to be self insured and provide long term profitability, resiliency and a desirable standard of life for those involved.
