Canadian Beef Industry Conference

Manitoba recently hosted the Canadian Beef Industry Conference for the first time.

CBIC brought together producers, researchers, government, and industry from across the country for a few focused days of connection and practical discussion to shape the future of Canadian beef. The event was co-chaired by Manitoba’s own Kristine Tapley and Arvid Nottveit, bringing together experience across sustainability, industry collaboration, and on-farm realities.

We kicked off the week with a Made in Manitoba tour curated specifically for CBIC delegates, and we’re incredibly grateful to the producers – Sawmill Creek Livestock and Lochwood Farms – who opened their gates and shared their operations with us. Delegates also got to visit Gimli for some Icelandic culture and explore Oak Hammock Marsh while learning about the connection between conservation and agriculture. Our thanks to TD Agriculture Services for sponsoring the day, along with the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and Ducks Unlimited Canada.

Gitane De Silva was the keynote speaker. With experience across government, energy, and Canada–U.S. relations, she brought a clear perspective on the policies, trade relationships, and market forces shaping Canada’s operating environment. Known for making complex issues accessible, her keynote provided valuable context for what lies ahead for the beef sector.
